Adoption

Why is it, as a society, we support a woman's right to choose but not a woman's choice to give their child up for adoption? I have had patients who wanted to adopt out their baby but were "talked out of it" by friends or family.   These are single mothers, stressed to their breaking points and when the dust from their births cleared... they are poorly equipped to care for themselves or their babies.

We have convinced many of these women that if they put their child up for adoption, they don't love their baby. What a Crock! It takes courage and love to know what is best for the infant.

So... my goal this week is to learn about what support systems are in place locally to support adoption.

Thoughts?

  4. Being a daughter of a father who was adopted as well as having a hysterectomy at age 21 due to endometriosis I have very strong feeling about adoption. I also have a family member that has had 5 children and can not effectively take care of any of them sadly enough. It breaks my heart to see these children struggle on a daily basis and to see their mother struggle as well but nothing is done about this. Adoption was never an option for her neither was birth control but that is completly another topic. For those of us who can not have children anymore and would love to have the opportunity to give that child, like my father (who was the 9th child) a better life, that is the ultimate sacrifice for your baby. That is the ultimate selfless choice a parent could ever make for their child and I can only pray for those parents out there that they would make that choice and not think about their own selfish needs or wants.

  5. Outspoken One has an important point about our society and the good of the many compared to the good of the one. When did we become such a selfish society? I encourage everyone to do one selfless thing today... then tell me about it.

  6. What a great idea OBJOLLY....It reminds me of the movie where the little boy had the school project and did the random acts of kindness. I'm so terrible at remembering movie titles. It was an 80's movie I think. I bawled my eyes out. LOL Well my random act of kindness on Monday was going to a "fellowship" meeting for someone struggling to show my love and support for them when I was sick and not feeling well and told to stay home by my physician.

I am going to try to do this on a daily basis as it makes me feel so much better and keeps my mind thinking. Since I have been thinking about this movie again and the impact that it had on me I have been thinking of little "random acts of kindness" that I would like to demonstrate. So thank you for making this suggestion!

So what is YOUR random act of kindness???? :)
